Lodging Tax

Modified on Mon, 25 Mar at 3:56 PM

Dear customers,

It has not gone unnoticed that the accommodation tax has been re-imposed on all accommodation properties from January 1st, 2024 in Iceland.

Multiple customers have contacted us in recent weeks to get information about technical solutions that Travia offers to customers, which are suitable for their business. So far, what has been available is increasing the rate in pricelists, sending bulk messages, and updating prices on bookings.

It is obvious that there are different implementations, but Travia has now released three different solutions for properties to implement depending on what is suitable for their business.

That is:

  • Lodging tax does not apply

    • No change is required in the system

  • Lodging tax is included in the price (this will apply for all rates)

    • Information is provided at the time of booking and in the booking confirmation

  • Lodging tax as added value (this will apply for all rates)

    • Lodging tax and VAT are added to the amount of accommodation, per room, per night

Lodging tax is applied on overnight stays on accommodation; to hotels, and guesthouses as follows:

  • Hotels, guesthouses, and accommodations with an operating license in category II-IV: 600 kr + VAT

You can read more about the accommodation tax on the tax´s website here

We advise our customers to consult with their partners regarding the execution of the Lodging Tax.
